Eccentric billionaire Clive Palmer has offered to save the career of anti-vaxxer utility player John Asiata.

The Bulldogs cut ties with Asiata yesterday just two months after signing him from the Cowboys in the wake of the big forward's stance against the COVID-19 vaccine.

Asiata's career looked to be over at 28 - but today Palmer stepped in.

John Asiata

The controversial businessman and politician has offered to pay Asiata to play for the team he sponsors in the Queensland Cup, the Southport Tigers.

Palmer is passionate about the Tigers and last year signed code-hopping star Israel Folau to play for the club.

"Clive is keen on John and it is an option we are exploring," Asiata's manager Chris Orr told Wide World of Sports.

"He wants John on board and he is a class player - he would do great in that competition."

Asiata is also considering moving to England to play in Super League, but could face problems playing and travelling with his anti-vaccination stance.
